Can it be shown that all 15 members have frequently and repeatedly taught that definition for “doctrine”?
I would like to push back a little on you guys today.
You are taking a very cynical view of the church’s adjustments to certain teachings.
On several topics, the church has stopped with the legalistic and nitty gritty teachings to emphasize a higher level of personal autonomy and personal choice. I think there is a very positive way to interpret that.
Although, I do agree that many of the nitty gritty things continue to be taught culturally, which is probably part of your point. For example, my ex-wife continues to enforce the 2 earrings rule, and other legalistic rules to my teenage children, even though the church has shifted to a more principle-based approach.
Timmy, I still have my copy of “To the Mothers in Zion” the pamphlet that was widely distributed in the 1980’s. The Church absolutely taught women to be SAHM’s. This podcast is reporting the realities I grew up with, why do you label it “cynical”?
If the Church would like to shift directions now, due to women’s liberation and new economic realities, they should acknowledge the former teachings and openly state the change from the pulpit.
Their silence about past teachings is troubling and seems ironic as they declare themselves to be God’s prophets, seers and revelators.
