Recently I believe I heard RFM mention that the navel mark copied the masonic “level”. I was aware that the breast marks were the compass and the square, but not aware of the level, which of course makes perfect sense.
What about the knee mark? Is it a level also? Or knee pads?! 😉
Below I list each mark, next the purpose of the tool, them the church’s claimed significance for each symbolism.
Like this:
Mark/tool = construction purpose = church significance
It would be interesting to also compare masonry claimed significance or symbolism for each symbol.
See below…..do these all seem congruent? Or is the church’s claimed symbolism a mismatch?
Compass = angles, circles = an undeviating path to God
Square = 90deg angles, square corners = exact obedience
Level = ensuring level surfaces, parallel to Earth = constant need for nourishment
Knee mark = unknown building purpose = every knee will bow
