Radio Free Mormon shows six places where Joseph Smith used Josephus, a two thousand year old historical source, to supplement Smith’s scriptural productions. By this method among others, Joseph Smith fulfilled the Book of Mormon prediction that he would restore ancient truths that had become lost.

There are some interesting parallels between the life of Josephus and the eponymous author of the Book of Mormon. Both were military commanders. Josephus led the Jewish forces in Galilee and was commander at the siege of Jotapata. Both were historians who compiled a history of their respective peoples. Both gave firsthand accounts of the destruction of their respective peoples. In Josephus’s case, it was in his book “The Wars of the Jews.”
